Citi CEO: "Well shit, hello Congress, I suck at running my company. Will you reward crappy performance and give me some money?"

Capitol Hill: "Uh sure, how about $20 billion"

Citi: "Yeah, that should cover it. Until we continue to do things the same way and fiddle fuck our way into this mess again. Then we will need more."

Capitol Hill: "No sweat, you know where to find us."

Anybody else think this is jacked up?

Besides Earl B Powell - whos fear the economy is tanking is spot on.....

Citicorp sucks. They destroyed a nice gothic church and replaced it with the ugliest building in America.

We are in the Smokies just west of Asheville, north of Lake Toxaway.

If you know a veterinarian or someone with husbandry experience you are in the compound.

Might even let you shoot the Barretts, we need to take a couple of trees down....

cherokee country! nice - i will put money on it being a beautiful area.

i do in fact know a vet - maybe i can convince her to make preparations in the event of "The Road" or such.

however, trusting me with one of the Barretts, though fun, may not be the best idea unless you also have a surgeon in the compound (i know one of them too - so maybe i can double my use to the compound)

You sound like you need some Cowlity time dire, go hang with the bovines and get yourself back on an even keel.

Back when I worked on fishing boats we had a saying: "It could always be worse, we could be sinking"

I think we ARE sinking. deeper, and deeper - water pouring in faster and faster.

my stock portfolio has had a 2-iron shoved up its butt. not good.

then again, i could always sell my body in prostitution to recoup some losses. i might be too picky about my clientele though. not good.

For once, I'm not going to make this about politics. Well maybe not. But we've got two groups of utterly clueless assholes competing for first prize right now.

The first group is us, who diligently send our money to Washington to have it spent for the good the country. This group doesn't appear to have a voice, or the right phone number.

The second group is the assholes that spend it, and at each and every turn forget where the money came from.

Don't get me wrong. As an engineering sales consultant, I see a ton of good business continuing to act in defiance of what appears to be financial Armageddon. Businesses that have gained 20-25% over last year, that are both aggressive and of sound business principles. These people are pissed in a very major way, primarily because the contributions they've made to their retirement plan for the last 20 years is vanished.

....But they still get up in the morning, put their shoes on and go to work. Because it's the right thing to do, and because they have to. It doesn't matter who the president is, don't matter who it was, hard work makes good luck and for those sitting on their asses complaining about their situation, well they'll reap what they sow.

Me, I've got a bomb shelter that needs dug.

See y'all.

Very bright guy who sees the future pretty clearly, and supports his position with well established examples from the past. The one thing I sense about Martenson is a clear tendency to commit to gold which is another subject altogether.

Bottom line is that with the 24/7 onslaught of bad news it's very easy to get caught up in seeing and believing worst case scenarios. But like I said, people are going to work every day, and for much of the country it's business as usual.

My tongue in cheek humor, however is really borne of this dramatic sense of being systematically victimized by something that is clearly bigger than even our own government. The economy and management of government has become something that even the greatest of thinkers are having trouble wrapping their brains around.

Call me a Luddite, but the older I get, the more I wish for simpler times.

I put my retirement money into food and education for my kids, at the end of each workday I 'retire' and have some food and hope my kids will do well enough that they can eventually help with mortgage & tax payments OR my wife and I can move in with them and be annoying (payback baby).

It is all about the Unions brother. They will get there bail out as the Democrates are beholden to the unions. If the big three auto boys get to declare, good by unions, healthcare and retirment. What I want to know is this. I run a medium size company. We are making money right now because we work hard, are fair with our employees and plan ahead. Where is my money. Does it not make sense that the companies that are doing well, and running along just fine should get this loan money to succesfully grow and add employees? Am I taking crazy pills here or what, wake me when it's over.

Part of the bailout money would go to a $31 per hour payroll for people not working... Tell me when you live in a world where someone not working on an assembly line in a factory can make more than a teacher with a master's degree or a cop who risks his life everyday... what a fucking joke this country has become, we deserve every bit of this mess, we made it and we should have to clean it up.

Disgusting thinking a public school teacher makes less than a fucking factory worker because of the mafia extorting our labor force. I don't care how many years yuo work anywhere, if you are doing manual labor and not managing or engineering, you don't deserve $31 per hour.

That is $64,480 per year... to work on an assemblyline... anyone guessing one of the reasons the rest of the world is selling more cars??? Anyone understand why the dollar stores are packed with chinese goods and there are no manufacturing jobs?

1. Our corporate tax is the 2nd highest in the world.

2. Our labor is too expensive.

Our CEO's are greddy trust funder douchebags.

Our investors are not holding their companies accountable.

The rest of the world want what we have and we are just giving it away.

Happy Holidays!

The definition of our anger is rightous indignation.
I am social liberal and fiscal conservative. Neither party fully represents my political views. This forum is not the place to air my potentially misinformed political diatribe, however I will say this. The wealthy and the politicians are running roughshod over the middle class and we have to band together, both republican and democrate to change the way our country does business. When our CEO's and business leaders cast aside morals and ethics in search of greater profits, we are lost. Gotta run. Althea and a one'er wating for me at home.

I know it's crap but the government has to bail out the financial sector. If all of the major banks go down then there is no money, no credit, and we sink into a horrible depression. It was the appropriate thing to loan $700B (or maybe it's give) to the financial services sector.

I just wish there was some way for those who took the risks to be penalized. Now my tax dollars are going to a company I have no financial interest in.

Bailout or not, we are headed for a Depression that will make '29 look like a carnival. Back then we were an 80% producer - 20% consumer economy. Now we are 70% consumer - 30% producer. And I think the guys back then didn't try to solve the problem by creating 7.4 TRILLION FUCKING DOLLARS of National debt to bailout companies with shitty business models.

Talk about deflation and hyperinflation - Jimmy Carter is going to look like an economic genius compared to the assembly of idiots lead by King Henry Paulson and Sub-Prime Minister Bernanke.

Mando I hear ya. I don't like 7T of debt either. But I don't think we have much choice right now. I don't like the fact we are a consumer economy, I wish we exported more. And I think we could be more protectionist too, tarrif goods coming in to match what countries do to our goods going into their countries. Why is it that we are the only nation in the world that ascribes to the free trade policy? Every other country, as far as I know, puts up barriers. We don't.

I have been harping this guy for awhile now. Please go take a look at Chris Martenson's website. Watch "The Crash Course" and formulate your own opinion. It's free, no sign-ups (unless you want to get his newsletter -I think that is free) and your only cost will be your time. Time well spent IMO - I sat my kids down (both young adults) and made them watch.

Read Martenson's daily updates - I am just starting to understand what he is talking about but what I've heard has me very nervous.

The scariest part to all of this is nobody on Capitol Hill (incoming or outgoing) understands any of this.

Sorry to be such a downer on the board - but I think if more people got this, We The People could truly make our voices heard and stop putting professional politicians in office and instead hire people to do the right thing.

Be Well my friend.
